Senior meet online, senior citizens internet chat websites, chat rooms, and meet and greet. Surprisingly, many seniors become computer literate and have computers and internet access in their apartments or rooms. It’s common for senior centers to offer classes to help them learn general use of the computer and to “surf” the internet. The cost of the computers and monthly access costs is a small price to pay for all the valuable information on the internet. It’s also a great way to pass the many hours of the day and to keep in touch with friends, especially for lonely or homebound seniors.

There are a large number of senior chat rooms available on the internet. The large chat sites like Yahoo Messenger, AOL Aim and MSN all have chat rooms designed specifically for seniors and other rooms which tend to draw an older crowd. Senior specific rooms include names such as 60+, older and wiser and seniors over 55. Other rooms tend to draw an older crowd such as classical music, big band music, retirement homes and health related rooms which discuss issues like Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Smaller chat hosts also have chat rooms dedicated to seniors. There are also web sites designed specifically for older people who have chat rooms on many different topics and also rooms based on geographical location where you might be able to physically meet your new friends. There are also chat rooms for seniors interested in “adult” or sexual conversations. Some chat hosts allow you to set up your own rooms. Since seniors often relocated to warmer states when they retire, a group of friends can arrange to meet in a chat room and catch up on life events.

Senior chat rooms have become somewhat common. This is a great way to meet members of the opposite sex, getting to know the real person and their personality without getting caught up in the physical appearance. Many people do exchange pictures to make sure there is a physical attraction and some seniors have webcams. You can also have a voice chat with a microphone and speakers which can be helpful since many seniors are not used to typing or many have trouble reading the screen. Even if you are not looking for a lover, chat rooms are a great place to make new friends. With seniors having more free time than the average person, chat rooms can be a great place to pass the time and connect with people from all other the world.

But, just like everyone else, you need to be careful when you meet other people in chat rooms. There are predators out there looking to gain your confidence and get you to share financial information or send them money to help with bills. And some people pretend to be someone else just for “fun.” They can claim to be older or younger, or even change their sex. Even with a picture or pictures, you can never be sure who is at the other end of the computer until you see them on cam or meet them in person. Many of the people you meet will live far away and you could in love from someone from another geographical region. Long distance relationships, especially for seniors can be very difficult.
