Senior Living
Some people go into aging kicking and screaming while others choose to go into gracefully approaching it with the same wisdom that has carried them through during their entire life. When you think about it realistically, aging can only be approached in this style, “Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional”. Lighthearted and optimistic, these seniors see each day of life as a gift and take pleasure in the little things. They don’t spend their time worrying about what tomorrow may bring.
I don’t mean to imply that seniors have no concerns however; their maturity has taught them how to address those concerns within their own lives. As we age our health becomes more of a concern than it ever was in the past. We are more likely to face risks of heart disease, lung disease, cancer, and degenerative diseases. Let’s face it, as we age our bodies lose strength. Many seniors take an active role in their health by giving more attention to nutrition and exercise. Most aren’t satisfied with a life of isolation but choose to remain active and involved in the day to day process of living. Despite their best efforts seniors sometimes face difficulties with their health. The increase in their body’s vulnerability can bring on some new challenges. One of these challenges rests in adequately financing their health. Senior health insurance isn’t always health efficient and many expenses are accumulated out of pocket. A vast majority of seniors rely on Medicare. Although the benefits of Medicare continue to improve there are still many areas of weakness and senior health isn’t always accommodated by it. The good news is that these improvements suggest that seniors are being heard and their voice has been strong enough to promote change.
Residency is also a huge concern to seniors today. Different from the past, they no longer expect or want to be cared for by their children and the idea of being offered only a nursing home as an opposing option is appalling. However, there are several other options available to seniors today which allow them to remain as independent and active as they wish. Independent living is a way fro seniors to live without the concerns of maintaining a home but being able to live privately and independently in a safe environment. For those who require a little help, assisted living is always an option and efforts are being made to make this more accessible for seniors using Medicare. Either option is complimentary to seniors because it still allows them to feel in control of their own lives. It offers them a sense of security along with a feeling of freedom. They can remain active and have their lives eased by the large amount of services these options can provide. This allows them to be able to enjoy life’s simple pleasures more easily. It’s fortunate that times are changing and that the comfort of seniors is being incorporated within that change. It’s a pleasant way to show them that they are appreciated for the quality and service they have given throughout our lives.
